Cross Tattoo Design


Cross tattoo designs comprise nothing but making use of the cross symbol for a tattoo. For many years, the cross tattoo was known to be sported by only Christians, the followers of Jesus Christ to signify his crucifixion on a cross. However, this type of thinking has been reduced due to many non-Christians also getting the tattoos of Cross symbols on their bodies.

However, many discoveries have shown that the Cross design tattoos existed much before the advent of Jesus Christ or Christianity into the world. They were found in pottery, carving, weaving and many other trades associated with many ancient cultures. Hence, the cross symbol has a significance of its own and can be sported by anyone.

Apart from Christianity, there were a number of other beliefs who used the Cross symbol to spell out beliefs of their own. There are non-Christian crosses also of different types. A few of these have been indicated below.

The Greek cross

The ancient Greek used the cross symbol to pay special respect to the sun god. It was also used to symbolize the sky. People then knew of these elements of nature and paid their respect to these elements through this symbol.

The Tau cross

Different cultures viewed this symbol in different ways. For instance, it is believed to indicate the hammer of Thor. It was also thought to represent the God Tammuz. There were also a few other beliefs regarding the importance of the cross.

The Chinese cross

The cross design tattoo used in the Chinese culture helps to signify the importance of ‘earth’. This cross is extremely popular in China.

Gothic cross

Gothic cross tattoo designs are believed to have a connection with the ancient German culture. It is believed to signify the feelings of pain, anger and depression. Hence, as observed above, there can be a wide range of cross design tattoos also.
